Thats right people, the iPhone 3G has made its way to MBK, its the hong kong version but still needs to be unlocked. The price for the 16gb iPhone ranges between 35,000 to 55,000 baht. Both white and black versions are available, no 8gigers yet. They have a yessim unlock, this means that they will work even after a firmware update. Not many shops have them yet, you may have to do some digging around to get your hand on them.
CNet post speculating on the possibility that DTAC and not AIS will launch the iPhone 3G in Thailand due to the 3G infrastructure
After the rollout of the iPhone 3G, I got to thinking why we were not getting one for Thailand. The major hurdle lies in Thailand’s current cellular infrastructure; we’re stuck at 2.5G. There is no point is launching a product that has no support from the carriers’ own systems. With that in mind, an inside tipster told me that Dtac is nearly ready to deploy its 3G network sooner than we were led to believe. In fact, as I’m told, importing and deploying the 3G support equipment have already begun.

Your “old” iPhone may be a sought-after collector’s item already. This June 9th the classic iPhone’s successor 2.0 iPhone was announced. Expect prices for the old iPhones to rise. Here is why:
Apple’s 2nd gen iPhone will have a huge impact on all the iPhone resellers in Thailand - and all other gray markets around the world for that.
Reuters reports that Apple is in talks with Thailand’s Advanced Info Service about selling the iPhone in Thailand.
Quote:
“We are negotiating on details, including a revenue sharing standard. Apple needs a local operator to promote iPhone,” Prattana Leelapanang, assistant vice president for AIS’s wireless business marketing, told Reuters.
The news comes after reports of Apple and China Mobile terminating talks over revenue sharing terms.
According to me it is highly possible as Singtel (Parent company of AIS) has the license to sell iPhones in many countries worldwide, and it would make sense for them to sublet this to AIS.
About a month ago the all new 3G iPhone was announced by Apple and on July 11th it went on sale in 20 countries world wide, with the promise that it will be launched in another 50 countries by the end of 2008. However there is very little news regarding the iPhone in Thailand. All the information that I can find will be published on this blog, I will not rest until I get my iPhone 3G.
