The iPhone may never be sold in Thailand
July 22, 2008
Your “old” iPhone may be a sought-after collector’s item already. This June 9th the classic iPhone’s successor 2.0 iPhone was announced. Expect prices for the old iPhones to rise. Here is why:
Apple’s 2nd gen iPhone will have a huge impact on all the iPhone resellers in Thailand – and all other gray markets around the world for that.
Reuters reports on talks between Apple and AIS
July 22, 2008Reuters reports that Apple is in talks with Thailand’s Advanced Info Service about selling the iPhone in Thailand.
Quote:
“We are negotiating on details, including a revenue sharing standard. Apple needs a local operator to promote iPhone,” Prattana Leelapanang, assistant vice president for AIS’s wireless business marketing, told Reuters.
The news comes after reports of Apple and China Mobile terminating talks over revenue sharing terms.
According to me it is highly possible as Singtel (Parent company of AIS) has the license to sell iPhones in many countries worldwide, and it would make sense for them to sublet this to AIS.
